Our Story
Our history stretches back to 1964, when Preston Burdette founded Multi Business Systems, a one-man shop in East Bakersfield that sold pegboard accounting systems for small businesses and offices in Bakersfield. With a mortgage to pay and five kids at home, Preston’s entrepreneurial spirit and reliance on God gave him courage and confidence to step out and launch the company.
In 1964, “pegboard” was the cutting edge technology for office accounting. As technology evolved, so did we, offering custom laser checks, business forms and printing solutions.
Our President, Bob Burdette, joined his dad in the company in 1982, and saw an opportunity to expand from custom printing and pegboard to promotional products. At the time, the print and promotions industries were generally seen as distinct and separate. Bob saw the potential to bring custom printing and promotional products under one roof. This enabled our clients to work with a single vendor for their print and promotional needs. It also allowed our team to apply our knowledge and expertise to make sure all of their branded materials matched to the best printing capabilities available.
As our company has grown and evolved, our focus has always been providing small and midsize businesses with products and services that help them save time and money, work more efficiently and build brand loyalty among their customers.
In 2010, Multi Business Systems was named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing privately held companies, and in 2012, Bob’s son Pat joined the company. Along the way, we expanded to serve customers throughout California’s Central Valley and Central Coast, adding offices in Fresno and Modesto, and team members in Pismo Beach and Ventura.
As we look to the future, we’re excited about the opportunity to continue serving and growing alongside our core customers: small and midsize businesses. In 2021, we rebranded our company as Pegboard, an homage to the original products sold by Preston.
